Adsorption of oxalate seed poisons and its effect on crystallization
Project Overview
Project Number
M0256
Total Grant Value
$306,000
Program Area
Project Theme
Alumina refining, Hydrate precipitation, Oxalate seed poison, Processing Technology, Thickening
Project Period
1995 - 1998
Summary
This study was part of a three-year project designed to characterize the adsorption of oxalate seed poisons (OSP) onto sodium oxalate, and the effect of such adsorption on oxalate nucleation, crystallization and thickening.
The effects of OSP were quantified, and a mechanistic understanding of their action was sought.
Keywords: hydrate precipitation, oxalate seed poison, alumina refining, thickening
