Cooperative Research Centres

The Australian Government’s Cooperative Research Centres (CRC) Grants provide funding for medium to long-term, industry-led research collaborations.

Future Battery Industries CRC (FBI CRC)

Future Battery Industries CRC (FBICRC) Logo

The Future Battery Industries CRC (FBI CRC) is enabling the growth of battery industries to power Australia’s future and ensure Australia plays a leading role in the global battery revolution. MRIWA is a key participant, contributing $6 million over 6 years, of which $500,000 is contributed by the Western Australian Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation.

Cooperative Research Centre for Optimising Resource Extraction (CRCORE)

Optimising Resource Extraction CRC Logo

The Cooperative Research Centre for Optimising Resource Extraction (CRCORE) is transforming the minerals sector by developing and deploying innovative world-class technology to effect a step change in value across the whole-of-mine system. MRIWA is a participant in CRCORE, contributing $600,000 over 6 years.

CRC for Transformations in Mining Economies (CRCTiME)

The CRC for Transformations in Mining Economies (CRCTiME) will drive transformation change to enable regions and communities to transition to a prosperous and sustainable post-mine future.

Mineral Exploration CRC (MinEx CRC)

MinEx CRC

The Mineral Exploration CRC (MinEx CRC) is developing more productive, safer and environmentally-friendly drilling methods to discover and drill-out deposits, including coiled tubing drilling technology and new technologies for collecting data while drilling. MRIWA is a participant in MinEx CRC, contributing $1,000,000 over 10 years.

Heavy Industry Low-Carbon Transition CRC (HILT CRC)

HILT CRC was formed for 10 years from 2021 to enable our heavy industry sector to compete in the low-carbon global economy for carbon-neutral materials such as ‘green’ iron, alumina, cement, and other processed minerals. The Australian Heavy Industries sector will benefit substantially from a carefully considered mix of electrification and hydrogen. HILT CRC mission is to enable the pathways for technologies and methods to overcome the barriers to the low carbon transition. The three program areas developed are: Processing; Crosscutting technologies; Roadmaps for transition.
