Coiled Tubing Drilling opening new frontiers to mineral exploration
The RoXplorer drilling platform delivers cheaper, faster drilling than conventional drilling technology, all with a lower environmental footprint.
Supported by MRIWA under Project M0509a, researchers at the University of South Australia have developed an advanced prototype drill platform adapting Coiled Tubing drilling technology to meet the needs of Australia’s mineral exploration industry.
As part of a coordinated program of research delivered through the MinEx CRC, the team have validated the performance of their innovative drilling system to a reach of 500m, delivering low-cost, low-footprint operational performance tailored for the discovery and definition of mineral deposits, including brownfields, resource definition and greenfields drilling.
Further development of this technology is underway in a Phase 2 MinEx CRC research project supported by MRIWA as project M10444.
