Project M0509d delivers faster fluid recycling to support next-generation drill technology
Coiled tubing drilling technology needs high fluid flow rates. Supported by MRIWA, this MinEx CRC centrifuge research delivers the goods
Fluid circulation is a key enabler of the Coiled Tubing (CT) drilling technology being developed by the MinEx CRC, with specialised drilling fluids both powering the drill head, and delivering chips and rock fragments to the surface in the return flow.
This program of research characterised the performance of a high-speed decanter centrifuge capable of cleaning and recycling drilling fluid at the high rates required for the CT system. This centrifuge represents a key component of the integrated Hydraulic Processing System (HPS) designed for the RoXplorer CT drilling platform, allowing the rapid separation of entrained solid material for representative sampling and returning recycled fluid for reuse.
