MRIWA 2022 Highlights
MRIWA’s Research Portfolio Managers have had a successful and productive year.
NZEM 22 Conference, which saw 180 delegates from industry, research, government and METS companies gather once again to discuss critical issues and opportunities to achieve net zero emission mining in Western Australia. Particular thanks go to our speakers and sponsors who enable us to hold such events and contribute to these important discussions.
Furthermore, the Joint release of the ‘Mining in a low emissions economy’ report series with the Clean Energy Finance Corporation, providing guidance for junior and mid-tier mining companies on how to plan and commence their decarbonisation journey.
A successful twelve months of championing and creating fulfilling events for MRIWA’s Education Program.
MRIWA’s Focus areas “Alternative Use of Tailings and Waste” and “Precision and Low Impact Mining” led by Dr Laura Machuca Suarez were established this year to accelerate mine waste reduction and resource recovery, therefore enabling and supporting a sustainable, low-waste, circular economy for WA’s minerals and mining industry. Our aim is to foster impactful research and enable #science, technology and #innovation to transform our state’s approach to mining waste management. There are many exciting research projects in the pipeline and an ambitious agenda for 2023.
A workshop on the use of blockchain in critical minerals applications was held in Perth on the 8th of December by Everledger with support from MRIWA. A range of attendees from industry, government and university attended. Everledger outlined the findings from their Federal government backed study on the benefits of a self supporting database that blockchain can provide. Benefits in capturing the providence, energy usage and other important data across the value chain was explained and workshopped in a Western Australian mineral’s context.
December has become a highlight in the WA innovation calendar. Some notable events were the WA Innovator of the Year program awards night, and West Tech Women at West Tech Fest put on by the amazing team at Women in Technology WA Inc. (WiTWA). Great also to catch up with Alex Bertram and the team at Carbon30.ai at the innovation showcase. Congratulations to the team at the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation and the West Tech Fest team, Larry Lopez, Rohan McDougall and Paula Taylor for putting together such a great showcase of WA Innovation.
MRIWA’s Research Portfolio Managers are available to work with all potential applicants to discuss the development of their proposals.
