Additional funding to bolster minerals research
McGowan Government invests extra $6 million in MRIWA over next four years
The McGowan Government has committed an additional $6 million for MRIWA over the next four years until 2024-25.
MRIWA’s research program supports investment in, and operation of, WA’s globally competitive minerals industry. This additional funding will be used to expand MRIWA’s research portfolio in areas of high need to deliver economic, environmental and social benefit to Western Australia.
Two current areas of focus are Net Zero Emission Mining in Western Australia and Green Steel. The Focus Areas launched in these areas provide an opportunity to target specific areas to stimulate and amplify activities of high value to the State.
As part of the Net Zero Emission Mining Challenge, MRIWA will hold its inaugural conference, in Perth and online, on 13 October 2021.
Have an idea? MRIWA accepts applications throughout the year from any organisations with capability to undertake minerals research. Contact research@mriwa.wa.gov.au for more information.
MRIWA would like to acknowledge the Hon Bill Johnston MLA, Minister for Mines and Petroleum for his continued support for the Institute and investment in minerals research to future-proof the State.
